Retrace takes your privacy seriously. Your personal data never leaves your device without your consent. Retrace does not share or sell your data.

Background Location: Retrace tracks your location, both in the foreground and background, when you have explicitly initiated tracking. Retrace ensures your privacy and never accesses your background location except when you have initated tracking.
Storing Sensitive Data: Retrace ensures your privacy by only storing your sensitive location data on your device. It can only leave your device if you choose to explicitly share it.
Sharing Your Personal Data: Retrace never shares your personal information with any third party.
Ads: There are no ads in Retrace and we do not use any ad trackers.
Analytics: We do track analytics (e.g., crash tracking) to diagnose Retrace failures, but this data is not personally-identifying and is only used by the developers to improve the product.

We believe an app should not require extraneous permissions. Retrace only requires one permission:

• Location: Retrace requires this permission to enable it to create accurate tracks of your activities. Retrace also needs background location tracking so the app can continue to record your track while you use other apps (e.g., your camera). Your location data is never sent off your device without your explicit permission. Without this permission, the app will fail to track your location.

Retrace can be enhanced by granting two optional permissions:

• Physical Activity / Device Motion: By granting access to this permission, Retrace can more accurately gauge when your device is moving and let the GPS sleep at other times. This enables the app to use significantly less battery. This permission is optional and is only used while you are recording a track within Retrace.
• Storage / Shared Files: In order to import or export your tracks, Retrace needs to be able to read and write to your files. Retrace will only read from, or write to, the files you specify. This permission is optional, but without it Retrace will fail to import and export tracks.
